Who we are

LocalKids (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a discovery directory helping Australian families find children’s activities and programs. The Service is operated by [[LEGAL_ENTITY_NAME]] (ABN [[ABN]]). This policy explains how we handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Our website is localkids.com.au.

What personal information we collect

Depending on how you use LocalKids, we may collect:

• Contact & enquiry information — when you send an enquiry, request a trial, join a waitlist, or ask to be notified about a provider, we collect the details you provide, which can include your name, email address, phone number and the content of your message.
• Children’s information you provide — our “For You” quiz and planner let you tell us about your child so we can suggest suitable activities. This can include a child’s first name, age or age band, and interests. This information is entered by you, the parent or guardian, on the child’s behalf, and where you enquire with a provider it may be included in what we pass to that provider (for example, a child’s age).
• Preferences & saved activities — the activities you save, your planner entries, suburb and scheduling preferences, and quiz responses (stored as “leads” so we can match and, if you ask, email you).
• Provider information — if you claim, submit or manage a listing, we collect your business and contact details and what you enter about your activity.
• Usage & analytics data — pages viewed, approximate (city-level) location, device/browser information, and aggregate signals about how listings are used. This includes engagement signals: which listings were shown to you in search or on the map (impressions), which result cards you clicked, and which listings people enquire about or express enrolment interest in, together with the search terms that produced those results. These signals are tied to a random, non-identifying session token — not to your name — and are used to measure and improve how well our matching and ranking works. Collected via cookies and similar technologies.
• Verification records (providers) — where a provider makes a claim that we verify (for example NDIS registration, a Working with Children Check, insurance or first-aid training), we collect the evidence and reference details the provider supplies and record our reviewer’s decision and any re-verification date, so a “Verified” label reflects a real check.

Collection notice — why we collect it (APP 5)

We collect personal information to operate and improve the Service: to show you relevant activities, to pass your enquiry to the provider you choose so they can respond, to sync your saved activities and planner, to personalise and rank what we show you (see “Personalisation” below), to verify certain provider claims, to send communications you ask for, to give providers aggregate insight into demand, and to keep the Service secure. If you do not provide the information requested (for example, in an enquiry form), we may not be able to provide the relevant feature — for instance, we can’t forward an enquiry without contact details. We collect information directly from you, and for some listings from publicly available sources.

How we use and disclose your information

We use your information for the purposes above. We disclose the content of an enquiry (including your contact details and any child age you include) to the provider you choose to contact, so they can respond to you. We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share information with the service providers (“processors”) that run our platform, as listed below, and where required or authorised by law.

Service providers and overseas disclosure (APP 8)

We use trusted third parties to operate the Service. Some of these are located, or store data, outside Australia (including in the United States), which means your personal information may be disclosed overseas:

• Supabase — database and authentication hosting (data may be stored in the United States).
• Vercel — website hosting and delivery (United States).
• Resend — sending our emails (United States).
• OpenAI and Anthropic — AI features (such as activity matching, the concierge/assistant and planning), which may process the text of your request (United States).
• Google Analytics — website analytics (see “Cookies” below).

We take reasonable steps to ensure these providers handle your information appropriately. The list of providers may change as the Service evolves; we will update this policy accordingly.

Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies for essential site functionality and for analytics (Google Analytics 4) to understand how the Service is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings and, where offered, our cookie notice. We do not currently display third-party advertising cookies.

Personalisation of your results

If you are signed in, we may use information you have given us — your children’s ages, your interests, your saved and enquired-about activities, your preferred days/times, and your suburb — to gently reorder search results and suggestions so the most relevant activities appear higher. This is a soft influence on ordering only: it never hides activities from you, and it does not change which activities exist or are eligible. We do not use it to make any decision that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you.

Personalisation is optional. You can turn it off at any time from the Privacy section of your profile; when it is off, results are ordered without your personal context. Signed-out visitors are not personalised in this way.

Verifying provider claims

Some provider claims can be marked “Verified”. When a provider submits a claim that requires evidence (for example NDIS registration, a Working with Children Check, insurance or first-aid training), we collect the evidence and reference details they provide and a member of our team reviews them before the claim shows as verified. We keep a record of the evidence supplied and the review decision. A “Verified” label reflects a point-in-time check of the evidence provided to us; it is not a guarantee, and it does not replace your own checks — see our Terms of Service.

Marketing emails and opt-out

We only send marketing or update emails where you have asked for them or have an existing relationship with us. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link and our sender details, and we honour opt-out requests. Essential transactional messages (such as an enquiry confirmation or an account/security message) are not marketing and may still be sent.

Children’s information

LocalKids is intended for use by adults (18+) who are a parent or guardian (or otherwise authorised to act for the child). Information about a child should only be entered by such an adult, who provides it on the child’s behalf. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If you believe a child has provided us information directly, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes described above or as required by law, after which we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it. You can ask us to delete information we hold about you (see below).

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access — including access controls, encryption in transit, and restricting sensitive data to server-side processing. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to address any incident appropriately.

Access, correction and complaints (APP 12 & 13)

You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by contacting us at [[CONTACT_EMAIL]]. If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles, you can make a complaint to us and we will respond. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

Providers: removing a scraped listing

Some listings are created from publicly available information. If a listing relates to your business and you want it changed or removed, see listing removal & opt-out or contact us.

Third-party links

The Service links to external websites (provider sites, booking platforms). We are not responsible for their privacy practices — please review their policies before providing personal information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time; the “Last updated” date above reflects the latest version.
