The Poppy Kettle Playground on the Geelong Waterfront near Cunningham Pier is best known for its interactive shooting fountains and miniature bronze statues set among rocks, which are a magnet for little ones on warm days. Inspired by Geelong author Robert Ingpens book Voyage of the Poppykettle, it packs in a winding multi-coloured tube slide down the hill, a dragon emerging from the ground, a timber tower, a boat atop the sand pit, swings, bouncers and a pyramid climbing net for all ages. With sea views over Corio Bay, picnic facilities, toilets right beside the play area and cafes a short stroll away, it is one of central Geelongs most popular free family spots. Bring a change of clothes if your kids are likely to make a beeline for the water feature.
